Hello,
I loved connecting with so many of you at our Summer Conversation last month hosted by TruStage. We learned about the powerful impact that we as Tocqueville members have ensuring families here in Dane County can secure safe, affordable housing. I want to thank our friends at TruStage once again for their generous $650,000 gift – it’s incredible to imagine the impact it will have.
I hope I’ll get the chance to see even more of you at several exciting events over the next few weeks, including the Community Kickoff and Women United Brunch. However, I’m most excited for our October 8 Tocqueville Society Membership Dinner honoring Jay and Katie Sekelsky. This year, you are welcome to invite friends and colleagues, and I’d encourage you to bring someone who shares your passion for making our community stronger. Together we can leverage and multiply our impact!

Renee’s Reflection: A New Workforce Delegation for the HIRE Initiative
At our recent Tocqueville Conversation, we discussed the rapidly increasing population and cost of living in Dane County and how that’s impacting hard-working families – especially those with children. One of the ways United Way is working to empower more people to find pathways out of poverty is through our HIRE Initiative – fostering opportunities for our neighbors to gain financial security through better-paying jobs.
I’m thrilled to share with you that our HIRE initiative’s new workforce delegation is launching at the end of this month!
Thanks to the work of the delegation as well as a generous new grant from Ascendium Education Group to create demand-driven, short-term training programs to get people into higher-paying, specialized positions, we’re working together to help our neighbors secure reliable work making family-sustaining wages.

No matter the day or event, Katie and Jay Sekelsky have a range of affiliations: parent, volunteer fundraiser, philanthropist, business leader, alumni and caring community member. Because of their involvement in all of those roles and the lasting change they’ve created in Dane County, the Sekelskys will now also be known as Tocqueville Society Honorees. Please join us on October 8 for the Tocqueville Society Membership Dinner when we will celebrate with Jay and Katie and acknowledge the collective impact made by all of our Tocqueville donors.

Recapping Our Summer Conversation
During our Tocqueville Summer Conversation, we had a frank discussion with Angela Jones, our Director of Community Impact, Financial Security, outlining the housing challenges neighbors face across our community. We heard thoughts and questions from many of our Affordable Housing Fund Committee members, leading to an insightful discussion about the impact we can have to ensure that, as our community continues to grow, our most vulnerable neighbors aren’t left behind.

Please join us for a memorable evening honoring Jay and Katie Sekelsky and celebrating the collective impact our United Way Tocqueville Society gifts have on our Dane County community.
